At Benno Advisory, we believe that sustainable peace and effective governance are built on collective action. Drawing on the Wolof principle of benno, which translates as “together, as one”, our services enable governments, development partners, and civil society to design and implement credible solutions rooted in context. We achieve this by going the extra mile to assist our clients in understanding local realities. ​ Guided by the values of unity, integrity, and impact, Benno Advisory serves as a trusted partner for navigating political complexities and advancing institutional resilience. From our base in Abuja, Nigeria, we build on Africa-wide knowledge with a West Africa focus.​​​​

Meet Our Founder

Mr Mubarak Aliyu

Mubarak Aliyu is a Political Analyst with significant experience offering specialised consulting services in political risk analysis, governance advisory, and security assessments for West Africa and the Sahel.  Across his career, Mubarak has delivered tailored risk reports and stakeholder engagement strategies for governments, INGOs, and private sector clients on governance trends across West Africa and the wider African continent. He has considerable experience with research and analysis covering jihadist threats, trans-border mobility risks, rural-urban insurgencies, and geopolitical shifts across the region.  As a contributing writer at TRT Afrika, Mubarak has also published articles on evolving trends in West Africa and the Sahel, covering regional political dynamics. He has also contributed to governance insights at the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, as a frequent panellist on seminars where he contextualises governance indices on topics ranging from security and the rule of law to finance for development in Africa.​ In 2025, he co-published a book chapter with Springer on the resurgence of coups in West Africa, as part of a book titled 'Global Storms and Africa in World Politics'. Mr Mubarak holds an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a BA in Political Science from McDaniel College Budapest.
